❤️ Why make this recipe
This falafel gyro sandwich makes a quick and easy lunch or weeknight meal. It combines a Greek-inspired gyro with a Middle Eastern-inspired falafel into a flavorful vegan wrap.
I like to make this quick and easy by using frozen pre-made falafel that I can just pop in the oven while I'm prepping the rest of the wrap ingredients. If I have time, I like to make my own vegan tzatziki sauce, but sometimes I just buy the premade tzatziki at Trader Joe's for a quick no-fuss meal.
🧾 Ingredients and substitutions
- Falafel - you can buy falafel pre-made in the frozen section of most major grocery stores. This is the quickest and easiest way to make this gyro, but you can also make your own falafel from dried chickpeas, herbs, and spices.
- Tzatziki Sauce - I like to use the premade vegan tzatziki sauce from Trader Joe's or make my own homemade vegan tzatziki. You can also swap this out for some sour cream, yogurt, tahini sauce, or hummus, however, the tzatziki sauce gives it the authentic flavor of a gyro.
- Pita Bread - to wrap the sandwich. You can also use tortillas instead.
- Cucumber - to add crunch and texture to the wrap.
- Tomatoes - you can use halved cherry tomatoes or diced tomatoes.
- Fresh Herbs - fresh parsley and/or fresh dill add a lot of flavor to these veggie gyros.
- Feta Cheese - (optional) You can also add some feta to the wrap. I like to use my vegan tofu feta.

🥄 How to make gyros with falafel
Step 1 - Preheat the oven and bake frozen falafel balls according to package directions or make falafel from scratch.
Step 2 - Layer 4 pita bread wraps (or tortillas) between moist paper towels then microwave them for 20 seconds to warm and soften them. (You can also heat them in a warm dry skillet or over the open flame of your gas stove turning them with tongs.)
Step 3 - Wash and cut up cucumbers and tomatoes along with any fresh herbs that you choose.
Assemble the falafel gyros
Step 4 - Place 4 cooked balls of falafel in the center of a warmed pita or tortilla. Add sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, or any other veggies of choice, and top with a hearty drizzle of vegan tzatziki sauce. Serve warm.
👩🏻🍳 Pro Tips
- Use the premade frozen falafel for the quickest and easiest way to make these wraps.
- Be sure to warm the pita bread or tortillas before assembling the wraps for the best-tasting sandwich.

🥡 Storage and reheating
Refrigerate: These falafel gyros will keep well in the fridge for 3 - 5 days in an airtight container. Leave the tzatziki sauce off of the wraps until you are ready to eat.
Reheating: Reheat the falafel wrap in the microwave for about 3 minutes.
