- great for packed lunches or easy weeknight meals.
- versatile and can be made to suit your taste and preferences.
- a healthier alternative to a traditional BLT.
🧾 Ingredients and substitutions
A BLT stands for Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomatoes, so for an authentic sandwich, you will need all of those.
- Bread - for the sandwich. Any vegan bread you like will work. White, wheat, sourdough, or rye are all delicious choices. If you need help finding vegan bread check out this list of 20 supermarket vegan bread brands.
- Vegan Bacon - You can use store-bought vegan bacon products like smart bacon or tempeh bacon. You can easily make your own tempeh bacon, mushroom bacon, rice paper tofu bacon, or even eggplant bacon to put on your sandwich. (I prefer tempeh bacon on mine, but all are delicious). You can even sprinkle on bacon bits if you would like. Most store-bought bacon bits are vegan or you can easily make your own vegan bacon bits.
- Lettuce - crisp lettuce like Romain or iceberg will give your sandwich a nice crunch, but you can use any greens you wish, even spinach or kale.
- Tomato - ripe sliced tomatoes.
- Vegan Mayonaise - to make the sandwich rich and creamy. There are many store-bought varieties but it is super easy to make your own vegan mayo in minutes.
- Veggies - any other veggies that you choose like avocado, sprouts, cucumbers, pickles, or bell peppers are also good to change things up.
🥄 Instructions
- Cook your choice of vegan bacon according to directions.
- Wash and slice the tomato and break up the lettuce into smaller pieces.
- Spread vegan mayo on 1 side of 2 pieces of bread.
- Put a layer of vegan bacon, sliced tomato, and pieces of lettuce on top of a slice of bread.
- Top with the 2nd slice of bread.
Optional Cooking Methods
- Plain - you can just assemble your sandwich and eat it cold.
- On Toast - toast your bread first and then assemble your vegan bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes on after. This gives it more of a crunch.
- Grilled - for a hot grilled BLT, assemble the BLT with everything except for the mayo. Then butter the outer sides of the sandwich and grill it over medium heat until it's golden brown. Add the mayo at the end to prevent it from becoming runny.

Best. Vegan. Bacon.
Period. I accidentally left them soaking for 24 hours but the result was amazing. Tempeh was a little fragile though. Thank you so much!!
